The Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl Board of Governors is pleased to introduce
Bob Lockerby as their 2025 Vermont Head Coach.
Coach Lockerby comes to the Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl from Bellows Falls Union High School.
Coach Lockerby will lead his team of 36 of Vermont’s best senior players into the
72nd Annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl Game.
Coach Lockerby says "I am deeply honored to be named the Head Coach for the Vermont team for the 2025 Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl."
As a proud graduate of Bellows Falls Union High School (Class of 1976) and Elon College in North Carolina (class of 1980), Coach Lockerby's roots run deep in both education and athletics. He has dedicated over 44 years to teaching and coaching in the Bellows Falls school system.
From 1981 to 2005, Coach Lockerby had the privilege of serving as an Assistant Coach under the legendary Bisbee. In 2006, he stepped into the role of Head Coach at Bellows Falls, and this past season marked his 18th year leading the football program at BFUHS.
"Born and raised in Vermont, my wife, Susan, and I have called Saxtons River home, where we raised our three children."
"Coaching in the annual Shrine Maple Sugar Bowl game is always a highlight of my career, and this year will mark my fifth time as part of this incredible event. Over the years, I've been fortunate to work with esteemed local coaches like Bis Bisbee and Mike Hatt, both of whom previously served as Head Coaches in this storied game."
Coach Lockerby mentions that the Shrine game is about more than just football - "it's about community, generosity, and making a difference. As a coach and spectator, I've witnessed the energy and excitement it brings, but its true significance lies in supporting those in need. It is a privilege to participate in something that brings joy and hope to others. For me and my fellow coaches, sharing the game's deeper meaning with our players is a vital part of the experience; it's an opportunity to teach the importance of giving selflessly and to inspire others to do the same."
"I hope for a great crowd to honor the players and to help raise funds to continue the vital mission of the Shrine. With great pride, I look forward to the 2025 Shrine experience."
Good luck Coach Lockerby!
